Tuesday 22 November 2016 was a highlight for me. I played a solo recital of music I love, at the famous and respected London venue which I treasure most, with two great friends and musicians, to a giving, warm, open, and appreciative audience of several hundred.
When I moved to London five years ago, I happened upon the venue which at the time, apart from hearing of its prestige, I knew little about. I vividly remember the moment I set my sights on one day, being the soloist to stand confidently in her own right and successfully share the intimacy of music making with that St Martin's audience, in that historic hall.
On Tuesday, on St Cecilia's Day no less (the patron Saint of music!), it is still a bit hard to believe that that is precisely what I did.
It was also so much more than a recital. During the performance I kept having out of body moments of glee, feeling the stress of so many dedicated years of work, and surmounting visa barriers melt away. To have been able to that day, knowing for certain that I will be able to continue to do so on my Exceptional Talent visa, was an overwhelming experience.
To literally everyone I have encountered in London, you were part of me making this dream of mine come true. This was so much more than a recital. Thank you! Today, I am fulfilled. Here's to opening the next chapter...
Recordings to come!
